Patented Analytic Services
MILPITAS, CA, October 12, 2016 — ProphetStor Data Services, Inc., the leader in software-defined storage (SDS) and data services solutions, was awarded by the United State Patent and Trademark Office a new patent relates to apply analytic to SDS to gain insight about the resources usage of applications and to control specified performance parameters required by Service Level Agreements (SLAs) in SDS. This is a foundation that the Federator® platform stands to manage “Just-in-Time” provisioning of resources for applications.
Cloud computing needs to provide SLAs measured in volume, velocity, and variety (and other measures). Traditional ways of virtualization and management that provide only capacity sharing is no longer acceptable. In order to meet the requirements of elastic resource management and optimize the utilization of the resources, we believe transparency of how resources are allocated in the present AND future time is needed. The invention discloses a new system for SDS so as to settle the problems mentioned above. It utilizes an adaptive fuzzy rule control and operation without human intervention. With this, a configuration for a storage devices fulfilling any workload can be calculated dynamically. Reconfiguration of the storage devices can then be performed and the waste brought along by “over-provisioning” in order to meet the SLA of the application is no longer needed.
The key benefit of the patent, from 10,000 feet above, is that it brings the transparency to how applications use storage resources, even the time is in the future. Now, with the analytic in place, customers can have the insight of the usage data for the time now and the future. Scheduling and allocation complexity can be much reduced and the management can be much simplified.
“The newly awarded cornerstone patent proves our vision and commitment in providing robust data services by developing innovative new features and widening the use of SDS. We are laying the foundation for a game-changing entry into the storage and data services markets,” said Eric Chen, CEO of ProphetStor. “While other vendors just started to talk about bringing the analytic to storage, ProphetStor pioneered the technology, assigned the patent, and already has a ready product released.”
Based on the innovation, in addition to the analytic data services included in the Federator® platform, ProphetStor also offers a stand-alone product called DiskProphet™ to the market. It is an extension of the cornerstone idea, we further takes the S.M.A.R.T. (or similar) data from the drives (HDD, SDD, and NVMe) into account and DiskProphet™ is now able to predict, with extremely high accuracy rate, the life-span and performance of the drives in different terms of time. The application of this technology can be tremendous, ranging from preventive maintenance work to optimized resource managements, maintaining system operation performance by preventing the Ceph implementation from performance degradation during recovering from drive failure, and other fault predictions with prescriptive action to help the data center operators to better manage the systems.
Building on this perspective, ProphetStor continuous in providing data services comprising analytics, data protection, data recovery, provisioning and optimization capabilities leveraging the Federator® software-defined platform technology.
