Sabah SCSD of Malaysia Chooses ProphetStor DR Prophet ™
KOTA KINABALU, SABAH and MILPITAS, CA, May 27, 2015 — ProphetStor Data Services, Inc., a leader in Software-Defined Storage (SDS), today announced that its DR Prophet solution has been implemented by the Sabah State Computer Services Department (SCSD) for the Sabah State Government of Malaysia. DR Prophet brings cost-effective disaster recovery and business continuity to their key Electronic Government application systems (SM2, E-leave, E-Pay, State Scholarship and Examination Systems) and enables the SCSD to keep operations running 24×7.
“Prior to DR Prophet, disaster recovery took more than 3 hours to restore operations. A critical goal for the SCSD is to improve recovery time to 30 minutes or less,” said Dr. Hj Mingu Hj Jumaan, Director, Sabah State Computer Services Department. “We can do that now with DR Prophet. It allows us to successfully replicate data flexibly across data centres, even with limited bandwidth availability. The advantages ProphetStor provides include less supervision and more reliability as the entire DR readiness is seamlessly integrated into the business.”
After a strict solution review with key input from Sri Komputer Sdn Bhd, a partner solution provider, SCSD found that DR Prophet was the only solution to meet both performance and budget requirements. The DR operation changed from a manual, tape backup to a snapshot method, freeing up valuable IT resources to focus on handling other tasks.
“The ability of DR Prophet to provide automatic data protection through pre-defined policies with minimal human intervention proved compelling to SCSD,” said SK Goh, Marketing Director, Sri Komputer Sdn Bhd. “As an IT solutions provider and systems integrator, Sri Komputer was pleased to advocate DR Prophet as the recommendation solution for the SCSD.”
DR Prophet offers advanced capabilities such as snapshots, data replication, and thinly provisioned mirror volumes and also provides a unified management framework to facilitate effortless disaster recovery data provisioning to ensure a continuous State public service delivery system. The user friendly graphic interface changes the normally tedious and error prone deployment of disaster recovery into an easy task for the 240 staff members of the SCSD.
“Rapid recovery from a disaster is especially essential for state governments, since interruptions threaten service levels and revenue generation,” said Simon Ng, ProphetStor regional director, South Asia. “ProphetStor is giving SCSD a comprehensive solution for data protection and provides backup and restore capabilities to maximize storage utilization.”
The Sabah State Computer Services Department (SCSD), established in 1976, is a department of the State public sector in Malaysia under the control of the Ministry of Finance.
